OP here. Yeah I would. Call it Catholic guilt! I actually love getting socks and he could probably use some. Or new undershirts or clothes in general since he hates shopping and wears things till they are ratty. So maybe I'll go that route- since he won't tell me what would be useful to him I'll just get to choose what I think he needs, haha.

Probably not. Guy here but and my wishes are 1) don't need anything; and 2) if you are going to get something, get me something I can use (i.e., socks)

I'm a DW and I'm the same way! Get me nothing or get me something I need (like socks). I'm not offended to get nothing. Better that than something the adds to the clutter, something I won't use or something that was more than we can afford.

As a guy, I agree. I am happy with socks, underwear and food items. Like a lot of guys, I don't want a lot of stuff, but the things I do want I am very particular about, so I would rather buy it myself. I also hate wasting money on things I will not use. I have all the tools I need, and when a job comes up that requires a tool I don't have, I will buy it then. I have a hat and a scarf that I like, so I don't need additional hats or scarves. I like both my briefcase and my backpack and if they ever needed to be replaced, I would want to selected the replacements. I love my coat. To you, it is a beat-up, old coat, but to me it is broken in and familiar.

I got my husband an awesome larger sized thermos - so when the family goes ice skating we are not dropping $20 on hot chocolate (we ice skate weekly).

I am also the person who would really like a gift a time to declutter the house and take it all to goodwill.

Why dont you just listen to him and not get him anything? I dont like getting stuff I dont need and some years I just cannot think of anything I need so I would prefer getting nothing. (And Im female)

Give him the gift of listening to him. He doesn't want anything. I would love it if my husband wouldn't get me anything. I don't want more stuff, whatever he buys I could pay less for by shopping around, I hate spending money just because it is Dec 25, and once again I don't want more stuff. What I'd really love is if we could get rid of about 1/3 of what we do own.

Make his favorite meal with a nice bottle of wine.

Do a "we" gift - a night out, concert/theatre tickets, restaurant. I'm like him. I want experiences, not more crap.

......do you ever call his bluff? I end up having to supply ideas to my ILs and parents, plus his birthday was just last month. I ended up giving him an "activity" for his birthday since he said he didn't want "stuff", which I suppose I could do again. But he did take up a hobby recently where some accessories would be helpful- he admitted as such but when I tried to get more input on what type would be best he did a 180 and said no, he doesn't want them, we have too much stuff, blah blah. Then there are a couple big ticket items that I know he wants, but cost way more than we typically spend so I know he'd be mad if I bought them.

The last couple years we didn't even do gifts for each other, just gave more to charities, but this year he already got me a refurbished Vitamix because I had been complaining about our crappy blender. Which is great, I'm stoked, but he hangs it over my head that his shopping is done while not throwing me a bone. Since he doesn't seem to care, I'm getting to the point where I'd rather concentrate on getting gifts for our families. Maybe my Christmas gift to him should be shopping for his parents?!
