Grades are also about developmentally appropriate placement. Also consider this...the farther ahead you push her now, the less years total you have with her before college.

All the schools around here have a September 1 cutoff. She is not being forced to repeat the grade "because people decided to redshirt". She is being asked to be in the grade that they deem age appropriate. If all the schools are saying the same thing, they must have a reason to believe she would perform better in the grade below.

Late December is very young. You are the one adding 4 months to the 18 month spread not the school. The schools you mention have stated September 1 cutoffs. You complain about red shirting but I say you are pushing too young.

I've never understood people who post questions like this to dcum. You really think that people on the internet would know better than the people who actually work for the school? Couldn't you just call the school? That way, you're sure to get an accurate answer...

if you stay at the HoCo school and she will stay in her grade, no? I"m sure at some point, privates won't make her repeat

OP - Well all the schools have stated she is just too young and she will have to repeat the Grade irrespective of testing! In one case there will be kids 18 months older than her (due to red shirting).

I feel that having a child automatically repeat the Grade just because of where she started her 'school life' is unfair. Really torn about what to do! Any thoughts?

I'm sure most schools will want to make sure she is placed where she will fit in the best so that she is not struggling to keep up academically or socially.

Discuss your concerns with the schools and a see what they say. I don't think there will be a blanket answer. (I'm sure a lot will depend on how she performs on the ISEE, her transcript, shadow visit, etc.)

Why don't you call the school?

Due to living abroad my DD is the youngest in her HoCo public school 4th grade class (late Dec). She started in 3rd and was tested before they did so. I'm considering applying to SR., Holton, St Andrews, Norwood. Does anyone know their policy on transfers. Do they insist the kids repeat or do they make each decision based on the child.
If I apply for 5th will they automatically reject her or will they offer 4th? The application process differs greatly for 4th and 5th (5th requires ISEE) so I'm keen to know before applying.

If anyone has been in a similar situation I would love to hear from you.
