I did it a few years ago. Maybe Martha's recipe? Or at least part of it was from Martha. The mushrooms were easy & made it look fancy. It's not a quick project, but it's not hard!

I did one last year 100% from scratch with merangue mushrooms. It took forever (it was the particular recipe I used), but it was delicious and looked great.

I've made mushrooms out of mini cupcakes before, but I like the idea of meringues!

Yes, use a tea towel. Don't use terry cloth.

Unless you like the taste of lint.

Used to do this all the time. Not hard at all. Just give it a shot.

I used to make these before kids.

There's a recipe in this week's Wine Spectator for a chocolate roulade that looks pretty easy and can be adapted.
It called for using parchment paper, not a towel.

Super easy. The sponge cake is different than the cake you are used to. It will be fine. If it dies break the icing will cover it anyway.

Melissa Clark at the NYTimes has a video on how to make one:

Oh yes! You can do it. There are plenty of recipes with pictures online.

Yep - it's not that hard. Just be patient when you roll it but I was surprised at how relatively easy it was. And it has a great presentation!

I am considering attempting this. Anyone successfully make one and have advice? I keep thinking the cake will far apart when rolled up.
