Really? I've heard that for ear infections, but not for strep.

The one time my dd had strep throat she had no sore throat or fever at all. We only caught it because she complained of ear pain so we went to check her for an ear infection (which she also had, so it wasn't just referred pain).

We just had this in our house. Persistent cough, no fever, no throat irritation, stomach upset. I insisted on a strep test because there had been confirmed cases at the kids' school, and the doctor was floored when it came back positive.

Have had multiple instances where one child had strep (once the only symptom was hives) and the other child with no symptoms tested positive as well.

Happens all the time. Which is why they send the culture away.

Oh, yes, our DS had the strep that was just a persistent cough and no/mild fever. It did show up on the quick test, but I heard from another mom at daycare that her son's didn't. We all had strep, and I even got it first, had it clear up, and then got it again. No major symptoms for me other than mild fever and severe fatigue…but I got tested again since my family members had had it and sure enough.

I have found that the primary symptom when my kid had strep was a severely upset stomach with diarrhea and nausea. While I knew at the time that these could be strep symptoms, I didn't put it together until he had a full blown scarlet fever rash.

I appreciate knowing about any other symptoms but cold symptoms and a cough probably won't send me to the doctor unless the cough is severe or a fever is persistent.

Last year, my then-1 year-old woke up one day with a low fever and hives, plus swollen fingers. Took him to doctor, and it was strep. No red/sore throat at all. I think strep can present many different ways, especially in very young kids. It's always best to have the doctor check out anything odd in an under-3, in my opinion.

Not OP but I think the point is that there are a lot of cases of strep going around without the 'traditional' awful sore throat and fever.

My son (3.5) complained of a stomach ache and had a bad cough. Strep test positive.

It came from illegals .

Just curious. Why do you call this "new"? Over the years, we've had several negative results in office but the cultures come back positive.

Heads up, my son and children of a couple friends have recently been diagnosed with strep throat. The quick test was negative but the culture was positive in all cases. No fever, very little sore throat, no spots in the throat, add cough and runny nose.
