This is my story as well... except I had the cervix removed with the uterus. Wasn't that bad of a process. Definitely get a laprascopic hysterectomy if you have it done. Run away from any doctor who says "I only do the traditional vertical cuts b/c they are faster."

Didn't regret it for a minute. Had hysterectomy due to monster size fibroids and HCT dropping from bleeding. Kept both ovaries and cervix. Had to have done in early 40 and wasn't planning on any kids so no regrets and no periods. Did not go through menopause afterward either.

No regrets at all, except I regret waiting so long. I kept my ovaries and have normal hormone levels. It has been a very positive change in my life.

I had a total hysterectormy due to cancer and feel fine! Very few menopause symptoms (hot flashes when I drink at night) and don't miss my heavy periods at all.

OP here - thanks for the info. At this point all else has failed. but, still its a tough choice. My concern with UAE is having foreign particles in my veins forever and that it may need to be performed again in the future. I would just like to be done with it already.

PP here. Me, too. It's great not menstruating every month, but you still have the hormones (almost like PMS).

The embolization is the least drastic of your options - the doctor should have explained this. I did UAE and it did shrink the fibroid. Hysterectomy should be the last option if all else fails.

But if you keep your ovaries and only take out the uterus, then you don't have "medical menopause," right?

I'm 40 and had a hysterectomy for medical reasons. I still have 1 ovary. Ask if this is an option. It is better than instant menopause

Get the embolus action. Medical menopause is tough.

I still have my uterus, but have a few friends who went through menopause early due to chemo. It is hard.

I am suffering and think this may be my last option. It comes down to uterine fibroid embolization or this. Anyone consider both and regret choosing a hysterectomy?
