I know, I know....I am not being very practical. But I want to protect the wood on the table so I use a tablecloth.

It would be great if I could purchase some type of clips or fasteners that could hold it down to the table. I have tried binder clips, but the side of my table is too thick.

Any ideas?

Another thought is having a piece of glass cut to fit the table. It will protect the finish and not look bad.

My mom bought me a table cover with elastic at the bottom to cover my wood table. It's not the most elegant solution, but it protects the table from my toddler.

Bed bath and beyond sells tablecloth clips for outdoor tablecloths that are subject to coming off in the wind. I bought some there last summer. I'm not sure if they'd have them in the store off season but you might find them on their website.
