I got rid of the matchy-match nightstands that came with my bedroom set in favor of cute (small) end tables that I found at the Saturday flea/farmer's market at Courthouse. They are antique, and the wood is about the same shade as my sleigh bed and dressers. I'll eventually replace the dressers too, when I find the right antiques.

I bought my daughter a matched set (white w/ sleigh bed) and now I wish I'd taken the time to find her different non-matching pieces. We were kind of crunched for time, though - moving houses and ditching the crib.

It's not about using crappy stuff but creating interest and balance. For example, modern chairs with a rustic table can look really cool. I have a matching dining set but replaced the 2 chairs at the head of the table and it looks better. Thought my husband was going to freak but he liked it right awAy. It's the same concept as with throw pillows. 3 coordinating but not matching pillows looks better than 2 sets of 2 matching pillows. This is all just my opinion, of course.

Ours match... But I have a designer redo our bedroom and we moved pieces to other rooms so they don't match.

Don't match. I picked out a small nightstand for my side and a coordinating small dresser for DH. Both also coordinate with our larger dresser. It works well with our space and where we had to place the king-sized bed in a long and narrow room. I have matching in a guest room and am finding I really don't like it. I will probably move one nightstand out and replace with a slimmer lamp table.

I like my bedroom set to be matching, but that is just my own taste.

It depends on what your taste is like.

I think mine goes back to when I was a poor college student and all of my used/garage sale furniture was all mismatched and I hated how it all looked.

Mine don't match. Dh's side has the night stand that matches the bedroom set. I have one of those round tables covered with a cloth that matches our bedding and upholstered furniture.

Not matching, but only because it's not my aesthetic at all. Look at photos of rooms with both - might help you decide. I do think that mattress 4 inches higher than the tables would be an issue too.

Ours all matches, but I'm weird that way.

I am looking at dressers (have another thread here on the subject) but we also need nightstands. I am torn about getting two nightstands from the same collection as the dresser because I am afraid it will be too "matchy."

What did you do?

Also, our bed height from floor to top of mattress is 29" and the nightstands from the collection are 25" tall - since we don't have any nightstands currently I am afraid it will look strange and be kind of cumbersome to have them shorter than our bed.

What do you think? Any suggestions?
