Total shot in the dark but from the reaction and mystery date, I'm guessing it's a private school event for large donors. Am I close?

Absolutely not bitter, and have plenty of parties to attend - thanks for asking. Just calling it like I see it. Interesting that in your circle of friends, you have no one to pose this question to, and depend on strangers to assist in setting your social calendar.
