That said, I think the tighening of capacity is creating less choice by default and making more schools viable than ever before.

I would recommend only playing if you know you will leave. We did the same thing (only lotteried for #1) but ended up being really sad when we got in. We didn't want to leave out #2 as we decided it was really our #1 after all. We figure the grass wasn't always greener. It was agonizing.[/quote


This was us as well. Got into MV and ended up turning it down to stay at our DCPS language immersion school.

Seriously, what is the point of playing the lottery "just for fun" if you don't actually want to switch? You are setting yourself up for stress and agonizing. AND you make it harder for people who desperately want spots and have to sit by waiting while you decide (probably at the last minute) whether to stay at the school you already love or take a spot at another school you might also love.

I thought about it (could we get a spot at MV or YY?). But we would likely not switch, and if we somehow got in, the decisions and any resulting "what ifs" would be too painful. So, no, we are throwing are chips in with Lee for the long haul.

I did, just to see if dc would get a spot in Latin for 5th. He pulled a number around 500 and he's continuing in private.
