Jealous. Oh wait, mine moved to FL. Still, I'd prefer Europe. You can now do a European vacation for like 10 days and visit her for 3 of them.

This made me laugh because it is close to the truth for me too!

Lucky you. I would be happy if mine just moved to Florida.

Alot of them want to live their life. They don't want to stay around and watch your kids...it's like we did that already, now they want to have their fun and only want to visit the grandkids...not watch them.

Seriously. When I visit my inlaws, we have to go to the South. The South! Can you imagine?

My MIL, my parents and other family members are all in Paris.

Usually that's a WONDERFUL thing. Sometimes it can get tricky, like right now: MIL has serious health issues and we can't visit her at the drop of a hat.

The downside is that, living that far away, her visits may last one to two weeks when they do happen!

Or you'll have to use that much vacation time to go visit them and haul your children to Europe!

I think from what you have described, though, better far away than next door….

Mine lives about an hour from montreal- depending on where in EU (London, Dublin come to mind) and disposable income, she might be here more than 1-2 times a year.

So your only regret is losing free childcare.

I have wonderful memories from going to visit my overseas relatives as a child. It meant I got to travel and see things I never would have if we didn't have local connections in those countries.

MIL just broke the news that she is moving back to Europe. I really didn't see that coming so my whole body was in shock. I just froze! I have an on and off relationship with her so there are MULTIPLE times I have wished she lived a far place like Chicago, Oklahoma, or even in PA... but to Europe? I know most of you are jealous Please know I have paid my dues! Hahaha. This woman makes me feel like I am a kindergartner all over again... "ohh why aren't you wearing a warmer jacket," "aren't those heels too high," "where are you?" "can you go upstairs and get my phone charger," "have you guys started trying yet?"

I know I am going to regret those days that I have "refused" her to visit. I will see her only twice a year vs twice a week. When we have children we won't have "free" child care. However, my children won't grow around my gossiping MIL who dislikes everyone who has different ideologies from hers, and who also hates education.

I will miss you MIL.
