The fact that the loans ballooned from 36K to 77K in three years while she was unemployed and looking for a way to work things out is appalling.
She is resourceful and tenacious and I would expect her to do very well in life.

Good, I am glad she won.
I think it's a two pronged approach that is needed - one, there needs to be much better counseling at the college level about loans and how that will effect lifetime earnings. two, some student loan debt needs to be discharge able in bankruptcy. At least some percent.

I have 2 loans with Sallie Mae and I agree with her that they are relentless. Since taking out the loans in 2003, I have never been over 30 days past due. If I am just a few days past due, they will call NON-STOP. It's crazy. Even if you go on, make a payment, and have the confirmation number...they will continue to call. It borders on harrassment.

My best friend is a geography major and is making 150k plus. It's high in demand with defense companies. She is great at geospatial mapping. You can't judge people by your limited knowledge of their major...

A few things I don't understand- in debt collection, isn't it better to get some money? Aren't companies more willing to set up some kind of payment system rather than get nothing?
Also, I don't know what those companies were, especially the one they have no record of.
