Yes! I have this. It's my shins that hurt, and it's just like you said, it feels like my shins are bruised when rubbed. I usually ask them not to massage my legs at all, because asking them to go lightly doesn't seem to help.

I just went through 10 weeks of excruciating physical therapy for extremely tight IT bands. I have a ton of extremely painful trigger points like that and first noticed it when the leg massage was so painful during a pedicure. The PT said that they need to be worked out with massage, stretching and streghtening. I nearly wept every time he would go to town on them but they are much better now.

At home I started out with the stick massager and have moved on to foam rolling. It's still super painful but much better. Drinking tons of water also helps, as noted by others.

I asked the Nail Tech to go easy and she said I was full of fluid that needed to be pushed out. She's right in that I carry a lot of fluid in my lower legs so I'm wondering if it's not lactic acidosis & that's why it's painful when it's moving.

I have the same issues and getting a pedicure right now. I think it may be related to my sciatica.

Thought this was a rare issue. I hv to ask the pedicurist to be very easy on my legs because the massage is extremely painful. I have been fibromyalgia so it could be that. I also didn’t know a person could have unseen varicose veins. How is this diagnosed?

I have the same issue. Go to your dermatologist if there are bumps where there is pain.

I get a burning pain when I get a back massage sometimes. But I think it's because the masseuse is not using enough lotion and the skin is getting pulled from other tissues (Fascia??). I wonder if it's a similar issue, though I assumed OP that your pain was muscular or nerve-related.

It's your connective tissue that surrounds the muscles - it's either tight, or inflamed. I have this issue in my hips and it's incredibly painful beyond a slight touch. Stretching regularly & drinking a lot of water are the only two things I've found that help. I steer massage therapists away from doing any work if I want a relaxing experience, or tell them to try to loosen up the fascia if I want a therapeutic massage. If your therapist acts put out by either request, then they aren't very good.

I have horrendous pain with inner lower leg massage, exactly as you describe....bruise, hot poker, just with light touch. I will sometimes get a similar pain elsewhere, like along arms or hips. It is only about 25% of the leg pain. I am self diagnosing it as fibromyalgia. It seems to fit the description as I understand it.

I experience this too every pedicure, I have asked them not to massage my legs , rather to my feet because there is no pain. For some reason they find this offensive. I still am unable to get an answer why this is so painful

I never have liked it when the pedicurist "massages" my legs, it's always uncomfortable, I wouldn't describe it as pain, but unwelcome pressure. When a massage therapist works on my calves, it straight up hurts, but not when I massage my calves. Maybe another person can put more pressure on our muscles nerves than we can ourselves.

That's the kind of pain I get from varicose veins. It's possible that's what you have even if you can't see them.
