It may be worthwhile for people to share how many non-sibling PreK 3 spots there were at their HRCS. I think the estimate of 5 - 10 are old #s before the expansion to some of the schools to more permanent facilities.

Stokes
Inspired Teaching

LAMB

Gotta be in it to win it... Chances might not be all that good but they are damn sure worse if you don't try at all.

The only way I was able to get this info was to ask at each open house I attended. Your chances pretty much suck at each school--at popular ones, plan on having 1/2 to 3/4 of the spots go to siblings in the entry year, which leaves little room for those of us with no preference. We only got into our IB school because of a really crappy lottery # but have been really happy there, despite what people say about it on DCUM.

Washington post I believe has published that information in the past. It really helped to slant my lottery picks last year. Good luck!

Except there are more like 800 - 1000 children and at many of the HRCS there are 10 or 5 spots for non-siblings. So, it is much lower odds than you suggest 17:59.

In general there are 10 - 30 PreS or PreK spots (which ever year is the entry year) opening at most of the talked about charters on this site.

Pretend that there 300 - 500 children applying for those spots.

If you assume that there are 8 schools - an average of 20 spots - there are 160 spots and 400 + children who want those spots.

Your chance is low - but not impossible.

I was doing the same numbers. One school had 1000 rank it with 24 PK3 spots (school gave me those numbers though). Visiting those schools was like going to an Alfa Romeo dealership and test driving something you can never have!

Is there anywhere where you can find out how many people applied to a school last year versus how many got in? I spoke to some places at edfest and just realized there is next to no chance of getting into most of the desirable charters. I'd love to have a clearer picture.
