We do ham. No one in the family likes turkey. I really, really, really, hate turkey.

But ham is so goyish

Does your hostess have a grill? That opens up possibilities. You can grill anything you want over indirect heat (essentially using the grill as an outdoor oven), or if you get there at the crack of dawn you can smoke something.

Sure, ham is the easy alternative, but you could go for the goose or duck that you want, or brisket and sausages, a standing rib roast, beer can chickens, whatever you like.

If she has a grill, that is. If she does, bring your own bottle of propane or your own load of hardwood chunks to make sure you have enough.

If not, then I'm afraid honey-baked ham is the answer.

Order a honey baked ham. All you need to do with that is warm it up and everyone usually eats at least a few pieces.

Sorry. Just hate that bird!

Turkey haters unite! I will be enjoying ham. And a honey baked ham/pre cooked is just fine in this situation. If you want to be fancy and still have that crock pot (or microwave!) available, make some kind of sweet/sour apple or pineapple clove sauce to serve warm with it.

Down with the bird!

I hate turkey and I don't cook it. Brined, deep fried, whatever new way is supposed to guarantee a juicy bird, doesn't matter: they all come out gross. I told my mother I was fine with hosting this year, but if she wants turkey she has to bring it herself. I'm making a Ham in Cherry Coke.

Bring a pre-cooked ham.

Second the ham. Most turkeys end up tasting pretty vile and I eat it, because who wants to insult someone who has worked so hard, but would welcome another option. My grandparents always had meatballs (made from scratch, not the frozen pre-made ones). I loved those.

I think a ham in the crockpot would be great.

Our Thanksgiving plans changed last week and we will be visiting my side of the family, with my sister doing most of the cooking. The turkey was already bought, and it will be too small now that four more people will be joining the dinner. My sister suggested that we bring "some kind of meat" to supplement, and I haven't decided what that will be. At first I though I'd bring a duck or goose, but I'm afraid there won't be space/time in the oven to cook something. What does that leave? A precooked ham? My preference would be for fowl- can I get something that's smoked in the next few days in the DC area? Any other brilliant ideas? I also considered duck breasts seared on the stove, but I'm afraid that stove space will also be at a premium.
