They are workhorse bags with some style. The nylon is durable and water resistant, the pockets help organize (I'll never go back to that bottomless pit of my longchamp "where the hell are my keys" pliage), and many of the styles can be held over the shoulder or cross body which is great when you are juggling toddlers in one hand and all their junk in the other on the way to school/work.

If it were me I'd buy a Kate Spade bag for $3-400 and put the rest in savings.

Please just deposit the $700 to your IRA - you'll save money on taxes too!

I like this and the snap closure, but the toggle would drive me nuts - I would never have the time to thread the toggle so it would just hang.

The Coach Borough bag is not tacky and actually pretty tasteful for the brand. It does not have logos covering it. It doesn't have the logo at all.

I received a small bonus this year (about $700 after taxes) and am considering purchasing a "luxury" handbag. I usually do not purchase luxury goods and am looking for recommendations. I'd like it to be sturdy enough to take to work everyday, but it doesn't have to be large (I don't intend to fit my heels in there, etc., but it should be able to fit a wallet and a book as well as other random odds and ends). What's in now-a-days? (I'm in my early/mid 30s, if that has any bearing on recommendations.)
