Here's the tip to make ice last 6 hours and also not to soak everything. Go and get plastic ice cream containers. As big as you can fit in your cooler. Empty the ice cream (I'm sure you can figure out how) and then fill with water and freeze. Bigger blocks of ice melt slower than cubes or smaller pieces. Additionally the ice cream containers are waterproof so the only water that leaks out will be the condensation. Also, pack the cooler as full as you can and do NOT open it during the trip at all. Everything should still be frozen when you get there and transfer to the real freezer.

Can you freeze the dough and then bake it when you get there?

I travel a great distance for T'giving and always get asked to make this stupid complicated apple cake that takes like 6 hours to prep and bake. Why don't I refuse? Why don't I stop by KFC or Walmart and pick up something gross like half the other people at this so-called "potluck" meal?

I'm not bitter, but I guess I'm a bit of a martyr!

I've been asked to make bread for Thanksgiving and am wondering how I can keep it frozen through the car ride, which will be about six hours, maybe longer. Last year we flew the day before Thanksgiving so it didn't matter if the bread defrosted since it was eaten the next day but this year we're driving approx 6 hours on Tues. If it defrosts on Tues, it will start to get stale or maybe even be stale by Thurs. Any suggestions on how to keep it frozen or cold enough that putting it back in the freezer when we arrive won't make it worse?
