I'm glad there are such well-paying hourly retail jobs for people who are trying support themselves and/or have kids.

Not in DC they don't. We pay $15/$20 hour.

In our restaurant host/hostess makes $11 an hour and the servers make anywhere from $15 to $ 40 (brunch) an hour gross.
We are constantly short of workers. Every craigslist add results in 1-2 interested people only.

Dog walkers get $20/hour! Too bad I'm not a dog person.

What area are you in? My son has been applying to part time retailers and getting no calls back. He just wants a part time job around school.

Real minimum wage is $15. That is for the folks they pick up on the corner.

That's probably for nice-looking white people who speak well.

These jobs are out there!!

Container store pays more than normal. $13+
Small catering company I worked for paid $15 hour for front desk work, part time Monday to friday mornings. Extra pay for creating menus or if I kept track of the kitchen employees.
Grocery stores tend to pay well.
Best friend Worked at a Dog vet for $15 hour front desk receptionist and had great M to F hours. I know she washed dogs for a few months when the groomer quit. That she made $20hr but she didn't like getting dirty. I even thought about taking that type of work on weekends.

While some places may be paying $14 - $17 for a part-time retail job, that is definitely not the norm. Care to share what retailers you are speaking of?

I was shocked at what some places are paying $14 to $17 an hour as cashiers. $15 hour as a dog bather. Just looked at craigslist and went on interviews for a part time job. Every single place said they couldn't find people to even come into an interview. Happily surprised after reading another thread on here saying on every place pays minimum wage. Well, I guess if you ask for it, you get that.
