On a side note, in a previous job where I had LR/DR, Kitchen, foyer, hall and one bedroom painted (and ceilings) PLUS installation of recessed lights in LR/DR and kitchen, installation of pot rack and a cat door built, I was charged 4k. I was very annoyed that he painted only one coat of paint! I didn't know/didn't think I need to specify in the contract that by "painting" I meant 2 coats.

After all was said and done I called the second guy (the one who just painted my MB for 150.00) - he applied one more coat of paint throughout all those rooms and charged me $700.00.

GL!

Are you in Va.,Md or DC? What is the square footage of your home? That is an awesome price!!

If you do it yourself, I can give you some tips. (I am the basement painter.)

Yes, but it costs more to do a small job because he needs to make as much as possible since it's a small one time job.

Craigslist is actually a good place to find people looking to do side jobs. I hired someone to painting a small size room (9x10) for $50. It was done quickly and done well. It was painting a fresh coat of white paint over white paint so only one coat was needed/

That seems like a lot. Could you paint yourself? It really isn't that much work. Maybe the handyman can fix the walls? I just started painting my basement. It is a big undertaking, but I only do one section at a time. I started last week, and am about have done. The only thing that takes time is the prep work. So far the outcome is amazing! You could probably do a bedroom in a day or two if you are fast.

My handyman gave me an estimate if $650 to paint a basement bedroom and patch a few spots on the wall. No ceiling. Is that reasonable or too much. Sounds high to me.
