If you have concerns, I'd talk it over with your pediatrician. If your kid is younger than three years old, I'd call Early Intervention for your geographic areas for an assessment. If your kid is school aged than you can ask the school to evaluate.

Yes, two kids in OT. When we got one evaluated at 3 by a developmental pediatrician for a speech delay and he recommend OT for the low tone issues. We had previously only been doing speech through EI.

#2 has DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder). I could tell as early as two years b/c although the physical milestones were met DC#2 kept tripping. EI gave us PT and we supplemented with private OT.

So both have gross and fine motor difficulties and the OTs have been essential.

I actually had motor planning difficulties as a kid (and still do now to an extent). I was evaluated at 2.5 and did OT for 2 years. From what I heard, the early intervention helped make my motor planning challenges relatively minor and avoided challenges with reading, writing etc moving forward.

My son's main motor planning issues concerned his speech. He received private speech therapy from 18 months to age 4 and still goes back for a tune up now and then. He has some minor motor planning issues otherwise, and we did OT for about a year for that plus sensory issues plus fine motor skill deficiencies. Didn't see any improvement, though his motor planning issues weren't a huge focus because, so far, they don't really affect him (and he has other things that do so we choose to focus on those). He's almost 5 now.
