PP here who recommended Desi. We just bought a West Elm leather sofa. No idea how it will hold up but they have a 15% sofa sale on that ends today. Buy from the store, though, so you don't get charged a $100 delivery surcharge (in addition to regular delivery). We're actually having it delivered to the store and picking it up with a $20 uhaul. We're not in DC, anymore though. Not sure I'd want to drive a uhaul to GT or Tysons.

OP here.

Thanks for the feedback on ikea and suggestions for other options. Seems like it's time to try out a bunch of options.

I had initially nixed leather, assuming that it would take too much of a hit with little ones, but it makes sense that it's actually sturdier and thus able to handle rougher treatment.

Thank you!

Try LaZBoy furniture gallery. There's one in kingstowne. I' have a sofa and loveseat from there that have lasted 13 years with constant use. They are a dark brown corduroy-type fabric. Very well made.

My ektorps are comfy and I love that I don't have to worry too much about kids damaging them, but they aren't something you will want to sink into for a couple hours and fall asleep on. Also not good for snuggling. If you want a truly comfy couch, get something very deep with soft pillows. You might be surprised what you can have one custom made for.

Faced with those criteria, we went with a leather sofa and loveseat from Jennifer convertibles. It's one of those gigantic marshmallow sofas, great for curling up, and big enough for the biggest family member. Leather means easy cleanup through the toddler years. The foldabed is not great, but adequate for the 2x/year it gets any use.

More expensive than Ikea, but long lasting. We bought it in 2000 and it is just starting to show wear.

I just spent the day washing, drying, ironing, and then wrangling slip covers back onto our 2-year-old Ikea sofa. The next time they need cleaning, I'm throwing the sofa away. I don't think it's particularly comfortable, nor does it look great. (The cushions sag a bit). 7 years ago we bought a microfiber sofa from Desi Living Inovations (there's one it Rockville). We bought a sleeper sofa with chaise (and got a free chair) for around $1300. You can spill anything on it and it cleans right up. And we've had to sleep on the sofa a few times and it's pretty comfy.

I like my Ikea sofa but I will say that it's not the most comfortable sofa I've ever had. I thought the models in the store were softer than the one I brought home. I thought it would soften up over time but it's been more than two years and it's still quite firm. (It is not a sofa-bed.) It works well for our house with 3 young boys but you might want to check out other sofa stores for comparison.

One of the reasons I went with Ikea is that I thought I could get replacement slip covers any time I wanted. Well, a year after I bought my Hovas sofa, they discontinued it and covers are no longer available. Ikea has been doing that a lot lately - discontinuing products.

I am looking for a reasonable and very comfortable sofa and love seat for our den. in a trade off between style and comfort we're looking for comfort here - think this is the place to curl up in jammies. We'd also like for the sofa to be a sofa bed for occasions when we have more guests than beds, but this would be rare so it's fine if the bed part isn't the most comfortable in the world. We have a young child abd a small budget so we're looking for something reasonable and probably with slipcovers. Is ikea our best bet? Anyone have the backabro?

Thanks in advance!
