My wife says it's this way in Arlington.

I really think it's a woman thing. Men aren't this neurotic.

I also promise you this: You're thinking about them a whole lot more than than they think about you (which is not at all). It is literally all in your head. Stop being so silly.

I don't want to exclaim "Hi" in a shrillish voice like the person I barely know is my BFF and give them the Real Housewives of Bethesda kiss on each cheek, so I just stopped and acted like the sarcastic, tired, grump that I am.

I eventually drew real down to earth friends towards me and realized that the people I thought were phony weren't bad, they are just different, and if I stopped judging everyone.

I agree. Lots of transient people here to become friends with. Transplants are the best because they hate it here as much as you do. The true locals are horrible.

typical bell curve of personalities in our bethesda neighborhood.

saw the same distribution in Manhattan, Milwaukee, and Philly when we lived there too.

never needed to call anyone snotty though! it's actually kind of a self-defining post OP.

Some of the W schools may as well be private schools.

Not to people who are really in private schools

+1 this is true although sometimes you have to deal with a culture of low expectations. Rich people are demanding and the schools tend to be more organized out in Potomac and other rich people places. Some of the parents, however, have a bit of a superiority complex unfortunately. Hard to find the total package in MCPS.

Yes. It is much better elsewhere.

Some are some aren't. I just be nice and ignore it. Who cares. I already have enough friends. Now, if they mess with my kid, then I'll care.

DC is in a W school and while the kids are basically lovely (still in elementary), I find some of the moms so competitive, snooty and entitled. They are cliquish, gossipy and I just do not like the vibe, or feel like I fit in (or that I want to). Feels like JHS all over again! Is it better elsewhere?
