I don't see anything wrong with double-checking what you are told as a matter of course. But in this case, if you already suspect something is up and you don't think he'll tell you the truth, just leave. That's your gut trying to tell you something.

Interesting. I'm a guy, and I have zero problem with it.
We do background checks on our employees. Why not on people that will know us at our most vulnerable?

Some men can be pigs (although my DH is not). And, not all men tell the truth when asked.
I have never done this, but I do not blame women for doing some research on potential mates. I also don’t blame men for doing it.

It completely depends on the jurisdiction. In many places, you can access court documents online at no charge. Do a google search for the specific court.

I completely disagree. I think it's perfectly fine to do a little background check on a potential significant other.
Who knows what she suspects and why. Maybe she heard a rumor that will end up not being true. Or, maybe it will be true. Who knows.

You can look up some stuff online for free though. For example, if it was Montgomery County, you can search the Montgomery County Circuit Court case database. It will list just some basic facts including any or all restraining orders, or whether the court had to compel him to produce evidence, etc. I'm not a lawyer -- but I know this because my divorce record (filing dates, court dates, etc.) all show up there. It doesn't include details.
