News worthy and nosey people does not make Kaya move, people should know this about her already. If one thing that Kaya can and does extremelywell and that is turn a deaf-ear to those that she finds as irritant. She will greet you with a smile but will shut-your down in such a manner that you won't know what hit you. I have not seen any mention that you have any discussion with the instructurional superitendents, there's a protocol.

Email Kaya. She reads all her own email and will not necessarily respond directly but will forward it to the appropriate person. We met with Dr. Beers after emailing the Chancellor. Results were ... moderately satisfying.

^^^ I disagree. Every citizen should exercise his or her right and testify before the Council about what's good or not good about DCPS. The Council and the citizens of the District need to know whether you're getting customer service or a door-slam. Public servants at DCPS need to act exactly as such, i.e. public servants.

You can't really embarrass DCPS and to try-it publicly is useless and only becomes fodder for the news and the nosey. This mechanism alone could have gotten faster results if you were willing to name drop. I know for a fact that DCPS employees read this blog faithfully.

I find DCPS truly unresponsive all the way around. If you make a complaint to the central office, you must assume that they will simply forward it to the target of your complaint (e.g. principal) and then do nothing else. So your principal will know your grievance, and may take subtle action against your kid to persuade you to leave - You bad, bad trouble maker!

If the PTA won't help, your best bet in the interim is to just leave if the issue is too grave. But make the complaint to DCPS just for the record anyhow.

Then, I suggest you testify in the spring at the Council oversight hearing. I plan to do that. Hopefully a lot of angry parents will come to air their grievances publicly. The only way this culture is going to change is to be public, embarrass DCPS, and let all other parents know what is really going on. That's unfortunate, but true.

You can go straight to Kaya but, depending on the type of complaint you may end up looking like a hot head. I would go to the instructional superintendent. Find ways to link it to instruction.

What is your complaint?

Make sure you have documentation showing how you tried to address your issues with the school first.

Mentioning your willingness to contact the media if you don't receive a response Will likely get you a satisfactory response more quickly.
