At ours the PTA produces the directory and you get a directory as part of your membership. Non members can buy directories but not until a couple months later.

I assume it's legal -getting a school directory isn't required by state or even federal law.

How about different pricing for PTA and non-PTA members? Maybe the difference can be the cost of the PTA membership?

I think this would be a great compromise and a win-win situation.

At our school, you need to be a member to get the directory.

It takes a lot of work by unpaid PTA volunteers to put the directory together. They also pay for the directory's production from start to finish.

Perhaps if you contacted the pta and explained your donation preferences they would give you a copy.

I do not want to be a PTA member because I like to contribute directly to my school PTA and do not want any portion of the money to go to the state or national PTA. In the past I have paid for more than 1 copy of the school directory (one for each car, one at home) so that I can support the school and the PTA. I am quite shocked to know that now I have to become a PTA member to get a copy of the directory.

Is this even legal? What is the policy at your MCPS school. I would like some PTA people to chime in.

At my child's school, you have to be a member to get the directory.

You have a choice. Would you rather become a PTA member and get the directory, or would you rather not become a PTA member and not get the directory?
