In DC , the fish vendor at Union Market. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. And still cheaper than a flight to Alaska.

When we went on an Alaskan cruise 13 years ago (we got engaged on the cruise!) we found a great store when we were in Juneau. When I want really good Salmon, like for special occasions, I always order from them.

And then have the best flash-frozen, hot-smoked and cold-smoked salmon I've ever had. So worth it when I want something special.

This time of year, you're better off buying frozen. Anything in the fresh case will actually be "previously frozen" anyway, so you might as well thaw it yourself on your own schedule (they're not catching wild salmon now).

Costco actually has good frozen wild sockeye fillets, individually vacuum-sealed. Or check the frozen dept at Whole Foods or Wegman's. Don't bother looking for "fresh" wild salmon past September.

The best place would be to fly to Alaska and purchase it fresh caught. Fish and seafood in grocery stores and restaurants are notoriously mislabeled.
