Did you do that in just the 7 or 9 days off for spring break or did you take the kids out of school for extra days?

Have to agree on NYC. We went last year for 3 nights, thinking it would be a cheap little trip, shy of a 'real' spring break trip. Not so cheap after train, hotel, shows, museum admissions. Definitely would have been cheaper than a trip to a beach in FL or maybe Kaiwah, which is where I think we'll go next year.

All of those vacations sound amazing. We had a great vacation to NYC for 4 days one spring break when kids were 6 and 4, and probably spent about $1500 total.

Hotel, train, show, dinners....we went to NYC last year for a few days and it would have been less expensive to fly to Florida.

Travel costs have ramped up a lot lately. It's hard to find bargain airfares, hotel prices are much higher, etc.

We tend to do a big trip at spring break because it seems to be a good time for us to travel. When we go skiing for spring break it's actually an inexpensive time to go (all relative of course). Last year our spring break trip was half the cost of our Christmas trip and we stayed at one of the nicest hotels at Vail. Of course spring break was in late April which can be dicey for skiing but it worked out fine.

We have been doing trip since 2008 and all have been great, tough to rate but Costa Rica was probably best, also may be due to the kids being older.

Cancun
Phoenix/Grand Canyon\Sedona
Charleston/Savannah
Jamaica
St. Maarten
Costa Rica
Puerto Rico
