Would definitely choose Congressional over Westminster.

I'm not sure what you mean by "rivals" but the two schools are very different. Westminster is a very traditional and strict school. Searching for Westminster on this forum will explain a lot.

It's a wonderful school. We transferred our kids there from public school and they have been very happy there.

Ignore the pp who complains about the current administration. He/she pops up on every thread about Congressional to air some old grievances. We have found the administration, teachers, and staff to be very kind, approachable, and very much focused on the children and constantly evaluating and improving the school.

Our kids are in elementary and we are happy to be free from the SOL focus of the public schools. I can honestly say that every teacher our kids have had has been absolutely amazing and they truly love going to school each day. In our local school, I felt like they were getting by, but I feel like they're thriving now.

Our older child was in the AAP program and Congressional has been more challenging than the AAP program was. Because of the smaller class sizes, the teachers can differentiate individually and they really seem to know what each child needs and is capable of.

There should be an open house coming up soon. I recommend attending and forming your own opinions.
Best of luck!

You might try Langley if you want k-8 in the 'near Arlington' area....

Can the above posters give some specific examples of why they would pass on the school. Thanks.

Thanks for the snarky remarks. I didn't mean less substantive work just less meaningless busy work. The latter takes up time better suited for other things and substantive reinforcement type homework shouldn't be more than an hour.

For my 3rd grader. We like our nova neighborhood public school but don't like the emphasis on testing we're seeing in the 3rd grade and the significant amount of homework that limits the free play time necessary for young children. We like a strong sense of community, a school that emphasizes civility hard work and kindness to others and embraces learning, teaches independence, respect and accountability. Does this school prepare your children for the rigors of high school? Are the small class sizes too limiting?

You do realize you contradicted yourself, right? You want less homework, but more rigor. Good luck with that....
