Two of my sisters did - but they were both heavily recruited athletes.

They both applied ED to their top 3 lac of their choice, and knew by december (and were 90% confident they were getting in).

If they didn't get in, they figured they had 15 days to throw in apps left and right everywhere else.

I'd normally say no but with Pitt, I think you are ok. Pitt has admission decision turn around time of 2-3 weeks. They are VERY fast so if you are not concerned about scholarships/FA...etc., then go for it.

It's unwise. How hard is it to apply to three schools (including one reach)? Then you're covered if something crazy happens with admissions, or if DC freaks out and decides he hates Pitt. To me, applying to multiple colleges is a good life lesson for DC about keeping multiple options open, not getting overly attached to one option, planning for the unexpected, etc.

Do it. DC applied to two schools, one a first choice ED and the other safety with rolling admissions and without a lot of additional work in the way of essays. If the first choice ED hadn't come back with a yes in early December, DC was ready to spend Christmas doing essays to get more apps in by Jan 1st. That turned out not to be be necessary.

If Pitt has rolling admissions, it would be nice to get it all in soon - and have an answer before other deadlines pass.

Pitt's 75%ile is 2140. Your DC can't be 300 higher than 75%ile.

The question is why would one do it unless the school is one that would be a cinch.

The stats you quoted are good but nothing exceptional based on the profile of other qualified kids.

I wouldn't. I graduated college in 2000 and my oldest is 6 - so my thoughts are outdated - but why not have some other options? You never know who all the other kids are that are going to apply.

And I agree with PP - it really depends on the school.

We are confident he can get in (his SAT is 300 points above the 75th percentile, 4.0 GPA, good ECs) and know we can pay the price. But of course, there is always that..."what if?".
