Could be product tampering. Don't risk it. Throw it away.

Toss it. It could be contaminated with bacteria, viruses and parasites. Costco might reseal it and try to sell it as new.

99% chance it's fine. 110% chance Costco takes it back--cheerfully, no questions, maybe even an apology. Personally, I'd toss it and buy a new one next time I'm at Costco.

But you bought it at the store - who knows why it's unsealed, how long it's been unsealed, under what conditions it's been unsealed. I would ABSOLUTELY take it back.

I've never refrigerated soy sauce ever -- nor does anyone in my family. So I don't think refrigeration is the issue here, but DO NOT consume something with a broken safety seal. 99.9% chance the seal was just somehow broken during transport or shelving of the product, but what if someone did something to the product?? Why not just set it aside with your receipt and take it back the next time you go? If you think Costco has a policy that they won't take it back after 2 weeks or whatever -- why not call Costco (or better yet tweet them -- that gets fast answers) and tell them what you told us. Huge chance that after they hear from you personally and you say -- but I'm not planning on driving back for 2 months -- they'll say, just bring it back then and tell them Eric the manager said it's ok.

It wouldn't be bad, but not safe. Never use something where the safety seal has been broken previous to your possession in the store. Costco will definitely take it back.

I used to buy soy sauce exclusively by the gallon and leave it out for a few months as I worked through it. Now I tend to get it in smaller quantities but higher quality and it tends to not have as many preservatives so it has to be refrigerated. Standard Kikkoman though can be kept out. Restaurants use the giant 5 gallon buckets and it just sits out in the kitchen.

SS doesn't go bad. We keep it at room temp for MONTHS. It's basically salt water, it won't go bad. If you don't want to return, just keep it.

You guys are always so good at this game, so here's another one:

I bought a big jug of soy sauce from Costco. A really, really big jug. Came home to discover that the inner seal (not the screw-on lid, but the foil seal underneath) was not fully sealed. In fact, it was only sealed about 3/4 of the way around, and soy sauce would leak out if the carton was tipped over.

I always refrigerate my soy sauce after opening a container, but I know it's actually supposed to be good at room temp for a long time. I just don't know how long "a long time" really is, compared to how long that container sat in a warehouse, or what the storage conditions were like. Also don't know how concerned I should be about contamination.

If it were a regular grocery store bottle, I'd toss it and go get a new one, just to be safe. But it seems wasteful to throw out that much soy sauce if I don't need to, and it'll be a while before I go back to Costco.

Sooooo.... should I keep it or toss it? WWYD?
