NP here, but yes, he'll be fine. He's in 6th grade. He does not need to be walked to the bus stop. You are the same people who will wonder why your adult children cannot do anything for themselves, or maybe you won't since you'll still be holding their hands all day.

It wouldn't prevent anything, nor would waiting at the bus stop. But I'd have a better view of speeding vehicles or a view of how he is crossing the street (which he has always done so safely from my knowledge). I don't want to baby or embarrass him, which is why I was asking.

Thank you to the PP for the email address. I will email the city later this afternoon when he comes home. Hopefully he can provide a few more details.

Definitely say something to the police. They should have a database of collisions.

Also say something to the city traffic and transportation division. On a long straight street like that, drivers are going to want to speed, even with speed bumps. The city needs to redesign the street to prevent that. transportationinquiry@rockvillemd.gov

Yes this is Rockville. There are speed bumps and and down the street. Lewis Avenue.

If speeding is a common occurrence, yes I would call the police and also call VDOT or your correct jurisdiction about putting in speed bumps and signs to tel drivers to slow the hell down.

what kind of car, was it one he has seen before, jsut go out there the next school day and wait to see it go by. get his or her plate and report them, or follow them and do mean things to them like put sugar in their gas tank, disconnect the battery, change the spark plugs aorund etc

He's in the sixth grade. I would be very thankful that he wasn't hit, remind him to be more careful, and let it go.

My 6th grader walks a half a block to the middle school bus stop. The bus stops on a neighborhood road, but many cars use it to cut through the neighborhood.

He was early today and came back home to see if he had missed the bus. He said, "Oh, and I was hit by a car when crossing the street." He said he was almost completely across and the car hit him, at the same time he jumped out of the way. The car did knock his backpack off of one shoulder. He said the car was speeding and didn't see him.

I tried to start looking him over, but he insisted he was fine. Then he ran back to the bus stop so he wouldn't miss his bus. I gave him a quick lecture about being more careful.

Should I say something to the local police so they can try to have more presence in the area? Just ignore it all together? There are speed bumps on that street, but cars def accelerate quickly in between each bump.

He definitely doesn't want me walking him to the bus stop or helping him to cross the street.
