False. Murch has 3 preK classes this year; it had 3 preK classes last year; and it had 3 preK classes the year before last.

I think the idea is you could use one or two of your lottery spots for a JKLM and hope for the best while not expecting it, but if it were me, I would not load up my lottery card with them.

My son got in several years ago but we had an older child in the school and the sibling preference. We got the call a week before school started.

I know of a couple people who got into Lafayette OOB for preK 4 last year, so it's not unheard of.

Janney added one last year when they saw how many IB kids were going to want a spot.

Hasn't Janney added a whole class to kindergarten a couple times over the years?

Finding out how many sections of PreK will be offered is useful info too. If a school historically (meaning last couple of years) has let's say 53 IB kids apply for PReK and the school will offer 3 PreK classes next year that means there might be 7 available spots--which would go to OOB (with preference ones first). But if the school only has two sections of PK then there will be 13 IB kids on the waitlist and OOB chances are practically nonexistent. Note that some schools are required to set aside one or two spots for Early Stages kids.

And it's unclear how the DME/mayor approved plan for OOB set asides will work which could come into play if any of the JKLM schools are below 10% OOB (Mann maybe?).
