Sounds vaguely familiar. My sister's mil asked her, her dh, and dh's brother for access to their outlook/personal calendars so she could see what they were doing and their appointment schedules. Psycho and control freak.

My fil was like this. He called and or texted at least 5 times a day about crap. All with panic such as "call me when you get this!!!" Only to hear him say he got one of our spam letters sent to his house. After my second child was bor, I had enough and I had to turn my ringer on silent because he would call and call and call I finally called him out. I told him to call once and leave a detailed message or text once only. His feelings got hurt but this is all out of control and not old age.

Anxiety or lonlieness. MAke the decision now how you want to handle it. Can you continue entertaining text all day every day? If not, let her know that this week you and DH are just working as usual, maybe working on something around the house. Keep it vague.

My mom definitely has an untreated anxiety disorder which she denies and won't get help for it, and she is always worried something bad happened to my brother or me. I'd spare you from the list of embarrassing things she did to make sure we are OK, texting is nothing, really.
Two things helped with the madness: first, she got promoted and is so busy and stressed out, she forgets she has a family to worry about; second, I installed her Find my Friends app and she can check on us and conclude that we are alive and well. I feel bad for the girl who gets her as a MIL as well as for the mom when she gets a DIL - it really easy to confuse my mom with a controlling type, but as long as she knows you are OK, she does not care about the details.

Set her text ring tone to silent.

Reply at set intervals, and don't answer every question. Be general "All is well." Perhaps every couple of days. Let DH do the communicating for the most part. When he gets frustrated, he'll talk to his mom.

I agree. My DH's mom used to call 20 times a day. It never bothered me, she is widowed and lived alone. So maybe that's a different circumstance. Now she has alzheimers and can't make calls and I actually miss it.

Two options:

1. Don't respond.

2. Give her a general schedule for several days in advance (be as honest/specific as you wish), so she's not constantly looking for this information.

I just want to rant and at least hear I am not the only one in this situation! I have an annoying mother in law who texts me and hubby all day and her questions are always the same. He texts me and hubby multiple times a day to find out what we are doing and where we are. In the beginning I was writing her a long text to tell her where we are etc in advance cos it annoys the hell out of me every time she asks "where we are" as if... Anyhow, I have decided enough is enough, I have been ignoring her "are you guys home" questions but this woman doesn't get it. Urgh!
