Subject: how late can you send out a birth announcement?
You could do photo holiday cards as birth announcements - that's actually what we did for our late October baby.

I think sending out announcements at around 6 to 12 weeks is the norm, at least in my circle. Most people know you're exhausted and recovering.

Yeah, think about combining it with a holiday card if you're worried (or if, realistically, it just sounds easier and cheaper).
But feel free to keep them separate if you've got the energy and stamps! I don't see them as gift grabs, either, if that matters.

We didn't do a birth announcement--our baby was born at the end of September, and we just sent out a photo Christmas card.

My daughter was born in October, and I never got around to sending out birth announcements so did a Christmas/holiday card with her photo and then her birth info on the inside. It was very well received.

I sent mine out at four months (colic, reflux = unable to think straight until that time). There was some grumbling among older relatives apparently that they were so late, but that was just rumors that may have been exaggerated by my mom. You're totally fine to do them now!

I love birth announcements. The only people who will think it is tacky are the people who think birth announcements in general are tacky. Go for it.

P.S. I don't think it's tacky because I don't see birth announcements as a gift-grab, ever. I just think it's proud and excited parents (deservedly and understandably) sharing their happiness. Sometimes I send a present, but usually I already gave something at a shower. I just like getting a picture of the baby (even if I've already seen him/her on Facebook). If I've already seen him/her in person, then I don't really need the announcement.
Same here. I love getting birth announcements.

Embarrassed to say that I sent out the last of my baby's birth announcements when he was 6 mo. Now THAT's way too late but we did it anyway.

I think that's fine. Most people these days already know about the baby by the time they get the announcement anyway, since communication is so easy, so it's more of a fun little formality and I don't think there's a rush. I've also gotten ones that were combined as Christmas/holiday cards (one for a baby born in March) so that's another option if you are worried that it's too late for a regular one.

It is not too late. And why would it be tacky to announce the birth of your child?
Now if your child were 18 and about to graduate from high school, then it might be too late for a birth announcement.
