My sister got knocked up by a mentally unstable man-child she barely knew and instead of getting away from him while she could, she MOVED IN WITH HIM and they are now starting a custody battle over a 2 week old child 1000 miles away from her family.

I'll trade you your problem for mine, OP.

Or my sister who spends most of her time asking me "what I do for myself" and the rest of the time telling me what she does for herself. I'd love to have a sister who was willing to drive over and spend time with me.

+1. Kindness is rarely wasted.

OP, are you a guy? Is she used to men handling this kind of stuff? Or just not her?

Or maybe she just wants to stay close to her brother.

Maybe she's afraid that someone broke into her place while she was away?

Does she know to check the breaker box?

How old is she? Does she own the home?

Has she had to do things for herself or is this learned dependence. I find I am very independent when I have to rely on just me.

Some people just aren't handy with such things. Sounds like she needs a handyman she can call for the little stuff, not you.

Did you offer to go there and check the fuse box? I would do that.

Lol! I admire your ability to look on the bright side of things .

Yes, she can be helpful to have nearby, but I find our relationship is better when things aren't too close. It can be challenging at times.

She just got to her home after being away a few days. Some of the lights aren't working, apparently. Rather than check out the fuse box to see what's going on and maybe, I don't know, solve the problem, she's getting in her car and driving 40 minutes to my house to spend the night. I don't mind her staying here for a night, but I just think it's weird to be so anxious that she can't deal with something so small. Ugh. Just venting.
