Outdoor cat....abscess until proven otherwise. See your vet!

I am having this same issue with my dog right now. We went to the vet. They can't find anything. Gave us painkillers and said leashed walks only. Recheck on Thursday

Thorn? A tiny one hard to see?

Did it lose a nail, maybe from clawing something and getting it stuck?

Sprain? Strain? Dislocation? Or maybe it has nothing to do with the leg. Hurt paw? Bruising or injury between his paw pads?

Last night I noticed that our cat was not using his front left leg - at all. Just hopping around using his right leg. He is an outdoor cat so there are various ways that he could have been injured. What is odd is that I took a look last night at the "injured" leg, but saw no evidence of any cut, bruise, anything. And our cat was fine with having me manipulate his leg quite a bit, did not seem at all uncomfortable. We may not be able to see the vet till Monday. Anyone have any idea what this could be?
