Mine loved getting into the cat box when our cat was alive. It is one of the main reasons we aren't getting another cat while we have our dog. Disgusting.

You'll just have to keep the dog from getting near the litterbox. Eating poop is gross but I would be more worried about if my dog ate a mouthful of clumping litter. I'm not sure what that does to a digestive system.

We have an elaborate fencing system using baby gates in the basement to keep the dog out of the litter box. It is so gross. I have no idea why dogs do this but it seems to be really common.

Better get your kid moving to clean that litter box.

More likely it's just tasty to the dog. Mine used to climb the fence to get into the neighbors' yards where she would scavange for cat poop.

Best solution is just management. Block dog's access to the box.

We just bought one of those litter boxes with a lid/door and turned it so the opening was close to the wall. Enough room for the cat to get in but not the dog.

Cannot believe dogs eat feces. So so gross.

I have the litter box in the bathroom, with a gate across the door way. The gate has a little kitty door in it.

When we first got our dog we read some dog training book somewhere that said that dogs love nothing NOTHING better than cat poop. So we always joke "well...it's no cat poop".

Put the litter box inside something else - a cardboard box with a small hole for the kitty to enter?

Give away the kitten. Just kidding - I just hate cats.

My friend (we're friends despite her having a cat) has a little cat house for the litter box - it's covered and the hole is only big enough for a cat or small dog.

My dog eats cat poop out of the litter box any chance he gets. So keep the box out of the dog's reach.

How do I deal with this? I'm a dog person who rescued a kitten so at a loss. Any thing I do to keep him away will prevent her from using the litter box…so?

Also, frankly, I'm disappointed because I thought my DS was stepping up to clean the litter box

help.
