It can't be worse than the college town at UC Santa Barbara. I went there on a college visit with my DD last year and I felt like I was on the Jersey Shore - except with a sunnier, hotter beach. Very trashy, dirty environment.

People on DCUM are such snobs. It's a perfectly fine school OP, and if you already have the money set up then there's no harm in paying the exorbitant tuition fees and living expenses.

Chapman is not a nationally prestigious university or even prestigious in the state of California, but it is well-known in southern California and a locally well-regarded school in that sub-region. Like a PP said, Chapman has historically had good ties to the Hollywood film industry and if your DD plans to work in the entertainment industry, or just in southern California, a degree from Chapman will do the job for her.

Most of Chapman's alumni network is concentrated in southern California and since Chapman students come from privileged backgrounds, their alumni return to that privilege when they graduate from Chapman. So it's a well-connected professional network and she should have no trouble getting a job in the OC when she graduates.

People in OC *hate* being called LA. Yes, a lot of people do refer to OC as "LA", but not people living in OC. If OP's DD is planning to go there, she needs to know not to call it LA.

No, Chapman actually does have an excellent film school and plenty of ties to the entertainment industry, but overall it's not a very competitive school. It's an expensive four year vacation in Orange County for rich kids who like to party.

Tell your daughter that southern California is not worth it if she's not going to a school that is either cheaper than Chapman or more competitive than Chapman.

well, that describes some of the W schools in MoCo, so maybe OP's DD will fit right in.

+1. Not a good school IMO. Have never heard that it has a good film school either. Why does she want to go to school in OC? What about UC Riverside?

I live in the OC and I can tell you don't send your daughter there unless you want her to be surrounded by wealthy, white kids with BMWs who travel in cliques.

On the plus side, the student body is highly attractive, but that's an OC thing: all the students here starve themselves, get plastic surgery, and have a very unhealthy body image. I don't know if you would want to expose your daughter to that.

Chapman, I think, is a Christian Univ. Did you check that out? Fullerton State is right next to Chapman. She could probably get into CSUF.

Does anyone have any experience with this school or opinions on it? DD does not plan to apply for their famous film school, she just is adamant that she wants to go to college in the OC, which we visit once a year because my brother and his family live there. DD has a 3.5 GPA and a 2030 SAT so I don't think she is competitive for any of the UCs, especially since she is out of state.

Tuition is luckily not an issue since grandparents left money for her college education. Just want some opinions on Chapman? I've read that it's got a small student body and is a little homogeneous.
