An awesome book for neophytes on furniture arrangement is Use What You Have Decorating by Lauri Ward. It is over 15 years old, but the basic information is timeless. She has a couple of other books in a similar vein.

She provided this type of help to me. She lives in DC but will come to your house - at least she came to mine 2 years ago in Reston.

Subject: Interior decorator consult recommendation
I am looking for someone who will come in and help us best arrange our menagerie of furniture and provide suggestion for some furniture we need. This is all for a modest budget.
