I'd be so tempted to say, "I'm only interested in mature, self-reliant candidates for this position. If your daughter is interested, she needs to contact me herself. It doesn't speak well of her that you are calling me instead."

I don't think it matters how low the pay is. Even if it's a minimum wage job flipping burgers, a parent should *not* be running interference for a child's job application. To me, that screams "loser".

I am an Xer and I would NEVER do this! In fact, when I was teaching college I had a parent call me about her son's grades! College! It is a boomer thing.

I think the difference here is that if it is serendipity, the parent/aunt/sister/grandmother, would say, "My niece is looking for a nanny position. Here is her number." and that would the end of the involvement. What the OP is referring to is parent's acting as headhunters for their children.

You are looking for someone to be in charge of your kids, and yet these applicants are not even fully in charge of themselves??! You should do them a favor and tell the moms directly that they are hurting their child's chances by undermine their apparent maturity level.
