DH and I just went there for our anniversary. Yes, cell service was not good to nil.

Agree with PP that if you are going to stay, get there in time for tea.

The meal was so fun and worth the $$$ for the experience.

The room was just a fancy room, nothing special; there's a place down the street you could walk to and stay. However; it was SO nice to have that great 3 hour meal + wine and then toddle back upstairs rather than navigate any farther.

The breakfast to me was just ok--small portions (everything is small portions, but unlike the dinner, the portions don't keep coming). I'm female and not too big but I could have eaten twice the breakfast. The bacon, though, was amazing, and so salty that even *I* could not have a big portion.

I would not jam this experience in and cut corners. If you can't do the tea or breakfast, do it another time. If, however; it's likely you'll never get another chance, then go for it.

The website says that there's no cell service there - is that true?

The dinner is amazing but the breakfast is over-the-top delicious. If you can swing it, definitely worth the experience.

Not something I would do often but truly amazing food, with tiny tiny details that were over top.

I remember tiny fried potato roll with onion dip inside that was some free added on course but was so precise and beautiful and tasty too.

If you stay there, you want to get there early enough to enjoy afternoon tea, which is included.

It's a special occasion in that we've just finished major, major projects and haven't seen each other in a long while. We can afford it. I"m just trying to figure out what makes this place so much more amazing than any other B&B and nice restaurant. Is it the food? The rooms?

Well, then go for it. Sounds like it's the right place/time for a reunion. (What were the major projects? PhD's?)

I can't speak to the rooms; we've only been for the dinner. It's not just a nice restaurant. It's a whole-evening dining experience.
I think what you're paying for is the attention to every. last. detail. It's supposed to be all thought out so you don't even have to ask; they've already provided everything. (And if they haven't, they will, tout de suite.)

Though it remains true that there are also plenty of other lovely inns in central Virginia. You would also be happy at L'Auberge Provencale, for instance, or Clifton Inn, or Keswick, etc.

I'm the PP who mentioned the dinner and breakfast. You only get the breakfast if you're staying at the hotel. We loved the whole experience. The rooms are extremely charming and well done but definitely not over the top amazing considering the price tag. You're paying for the experience....

This. we did dinner for the kickoff of our honeymoon. For the way home on a work trip--if you have to ask, it won't be worth the price for you.

I think it's more a special occasion destination. I don't know that I'd combine it with a work thing. There are plenty of other nice inns/restaurants in central Va. that would fill the romance-on-the-way-back role for a quarter the cost.

Worth it-I'll never forget the dinner or breakfast. Very special experience and you feel relaxed/transported from the moment you walk in.

What makes the Inn at Little Washington so worth the insane price? Considering it for me and DH after a day work related trip to Charlottesville.
