Great dress, but not right for a black tie event. Black tie for women traditionally requires a floor length gown. Some people are breaking this "rule" now and wearing cocktail style dresses to black tie events, but IMO that is completely ignoring the dress code and not really in good taste.

you don't need to wear long to black tie unless you are going to be in family pictures, etc.

Not black tie. Black tie should be floor length. That looks like a dress suit.

This is the dress I have worn twice now - got it at Lord and Taylor, but they have it at Nordstrom, too. It's very comfortable and forgiving of all flaws!

Agree with the PPs. That's not black tie.

I like it! But not fancy enough for a black tie event.

Thanks. You all confirmed what I was thinking...not fancy enough. Think a trip to Nordstrom's is in my future!

IMO, black tie means a long dress. I have been to two black tie events in the past year, and I would say 80-90 % of the women are wearing long dresses.

this is not black tie. more like a cocktail dress. go to Nordstrom, they have great sales people who can help you find something appropriate.

I don't think that's fancy enough.

Think it's a bit too va va voom? And not long enough? I'd go with black shoes and simple jewelry to tone down the 50's mod look.

Thoughts?
