Come on now. You can't have scrambled eggs everyday. I make killer rajma, tastes so good, doesn't need any rice or roti. I could have an entire bowl by itself.

Also try lower glycemic grains like ragi, amaranth, quinoa.

Lots of variations on the scrambled eggs so you can experiment. But here is a recipe:

Re the shake: just go to the aisle where they have the shakes and look for the one which boldly states 30gm protein. It comes in chocolate and vanilla flavors. I think it tastes pretty good - I use the chocolate flavored one. It costs about $24 for 18 cartons all pre-mixed so you don't have to blend it.

Looks yummy!

Whole-wheat tortillas aka Indian chapati.

When I had gestational diabetes I couldn't face giving up our weekend trips to the Indian Buffet so I replaced rice with the house salad. It sounds weird, but it worked for me. I just spooned whatever curry onto a bed of lettuce.

Please tell me you're adding them to the Indian eggs, because I first read that as mushrooms floating in a chocolate shake and I'm a little grossed out.

LOL! Yes indeed it is added to the eggs. BTW, it is fried lightly with the onions, etc before adding the eggs.

Adding them to the shake would be gross.

In the eggs it sounds delicious, thank you for reassuring me!

Search online for caulifower rice--I've been eating this with thai curries and its not as bad as it sounds.
There is a blogger who does Paleo Indian food--I stumbled across it and haven't triend anything, but her stuff looked good and would have no grains. The site doesn't work well on my phone. http://myheartbeets.com/paleo-naan-indian-bread/

Beans, dal and lots of veggies. Avoid rice and eat a single chapati - two at the most. Also have plain yogurt with the meal.

This has worked for me. Though I also eat egg whites for protein - scrambled Indian style - and I also drink a protein shake that I get from Costco. The shake has 30 gms of protein and is only 170 calories.

Indian food is typically heavy on carbs - especially the rice, potatoes and chapatis. So that has to be limited. It may be difficult at first but it really becomes second nature after a while.

I really need to be limiting my carbs but I eat the indian staples - rice, tortillas, beans and dal. Any ideas for a meal that is low on carbs, filling, has some protein and is vegetarian to boot? Does it exist of am I chasing the mythical unicorn?
