You know how to do it, and you say it's easy. They obviously don't know (if that's even what it is). Do you really want them messing with it and possibly breaking it?
Go show them. Once.

Its normal usage. It isn't unreasonable to ask for help. By the time you pay a plumber to come out, you might as well buy a new dishwasher.

Landlord. We just did ours. It was not a simple job. We had to watch a youtube video, then google the owners manual and take it apart. It took us two time to get it back together. I could not have done it on my own without my husband. Be decent, go over and do it.

Who's causing the problem? Just like the landlord shouldn't be responsible for drains that you clog up with your long hair or kitchen scraps this shouldn't be his problem either. Read your lease

Its a simple fix, which comes under routine maintenance. I would show them how to do it and advise them to do it monthly. I do this and my dishwasher works well.

Tenant here. I don't know how to do it. My landlord has never shown me how either. I call the plumber and she pays the bill.
I do plenty of regular maintenance but even in homes I have owned I have never done that.

Wow, I'd hate to be your tenants. We had the same problem with our dishwasher in our rental that we own. My husband cleaned it out. I'd never expect the tenants to do that

Landlord here and I agree with PP. Go out, investigate and if the problem is failure to perform simple maintenance, demonstrate how to do that and tell them the next call will cost them money.

My tenants called that the dish washer was not working well. I believe most likely the bottom reservoir was clogged by some food and need to be cleaned. It's a simple thing to do and I have done it myself on this dish washer. I am not sure this falls in the landlord responsibility or not.
