I don't know what the quality is like now, but 5 years ago I bought a bunch of stuff and returned it all because the quality was so poor. Some of it came to me scratched before I even used it!

I doubt west elm will hold up. I assume most pieces are made in China. Spend a little more and buy from room and board. You'll get a quality piece that was made in America. West elm is overpriced. If you want west elm quality go cheap like ikea or target.

I have the Terra dining table and definitely has gotten scratched but it really isn't noticeable once you set the table. The Terra is not made of real wood so I never had high expectations and it is definitely not an investment piece. Most of the table tops are not made of real wood.

Don't know about the wood furniture, but Ive had an upholstered bed from there for 5 years and a sofa from there for 1 year and love them both. Both still in good shape and I love the look.

They have a big sale just after Christmas fir 20% off but otherwise it's usually full price. Still more reasonable than room and board or of course, design within reach.

Went to see a mid century modern looking dining set and it was covered in scratches and nicks. Wondering if it's just from being abused as a floor model for 6 months or if the quality is really that bad. (Durability. )
