Teachers only talk to you for 7min a year. That one conference. Otherwise they barely answer anything.

I thought the MAP scores were used for placement into reading levels/groups. So it wouldn't necessarily concern the parent. It is also used as a benchmark I think. I can see wanting to know but it doesn't necessarily mean a ton. Teachers may know not to put too much stock into these things but they use them for grouping.

Anyone know why the teacher's don't want to share the scores?

Back in first and second grade I got the same response from a few teachers - that they didn't know. I found this very odd.

I would email the teacher and cc reading specialist too.

My guess is teachers have been discouraged from sharing scores and many of them are not familiar with the law and parents' right to their child's educational records.
Agree with PP's suggestion that you email the testing coordinator (at our school I think it's the reading specialist?)

They are required by law to give you the results. You can call the school and ask who the testing coordinator is and email that person directly. At my child's school, the teachers both said that they didn't know the scores (not true...), so I followed up with the reading specialist and she quickly emailed them to me. Make sure you get the student progress sheet that will list each time your child has taken the test since the fall of kindergarten.

My suggestion is ask the teacher for a short meeting (in person) to discuss your son's progress. Suggest possible times and be flexible.

They are required under FERPA to provide you with these scores. Ask the principal. Make your request in writing. If you emailed the teacher about the scores, forward the email to the principal and add your request in writing to the principal to the top. Reference FERPA. Ask the principal to confirm receipt of your request and let you know how/when you will get a copy of the score report.

Why not go in and meet with DC's teacher? You can talk to the pricipal but don't expect the teacher to like it. Your DC has to face that teacher everyday for next what... 10 months or so?

You should probably ask the principal. The teacher was given the opportunity to respond twice.
