I like the idea of a soft, light blue.

If you really want the cabinets to stand out, a blue is the way to go.

I think a lavender or periwinkle would be pretty.

PP here. Just realized this is the same kitchen I posted previously but from a different angle! I guess that just goes to show how different the same color can look with slight variations in the lighting.

With oak cabinets, tan floor and countertops with mixed brown, I'd go for something like BM Asbury Sand:

I think it will make the kitchen feel warm and inviting.

I would probably go with a light greenish gray color. Something like this maybe? Skip the valances. They're pretty dated looking regardless of color or pattern.

Hello, we bought a new home and I'm looking for an inexpensive way to update the kitchen. We have beautiful oak cabinets with stainless steel appliances. The floor is a light tan color tile. Unfortunately I really hate the countertops, which are a dark brown/light brown colored granite. The valences in there are from the previous owner and they are a dark green/burgundy/yellow floral pattern. Obviously the valences have to go, but I'm wondering what colors would look nice and lighten up the space. The walls are currently white.

I was thinking maybe a light blue-gray on the walls with white valences? I have looked on houzz and pinterest but can't really seem to find anything that I like. The countertops are a sticking point, and maybe sometime down the road we'll replace them, but wondering what colors might work for the interim.
