Love Aldi! And they are improving all of the time. The one I use has great produce and the meat department is bigger and better everytime I go, I swear.
I put all of our cereal into Tupperware containers with the spouts, so my kids don't even know that it's not "real" cheerios or rice krispies in there!

Does Aldi carry the same/similar items as costco? How is the quality of the meat and poultry? Do they have fish? We need 93% lean meat and only eat wild fish.

There is an Aldi down Richmond Highway past Hybla Valley and I agree. I can go there, spend a couple hundred and it will last us a while.


There's also one near Rt 50/28. I swear that we can easily save $50-100 a week just by shopping there instead of their competitors, with no other changes in what we're buying.

I did a unit per unit pricing breakdown on 54 items we regularly buy comparing costco, target, and giant. Costco lost to target big time. Giant is too dependent on weekly loss leaders so you have to really pay attention to the sale cycles. Yes this is extreme and yes I am anal.

Aldi is cheap and good. Not all the items Costco or a dull service grocery store would have. I go to the one in hyattsville. There is also one in outer Capitol Hill.

We're not Costco members but snuck in once to check the prices. We decided Safeway was cheaper, overall, for what we buy.

We used to do most of our grocery shopping at Costco, but lately the unit prices on many of our staples seem to be better at other stores.

Unless you have storage issues, what's the problem with spending the $300? You would probably end up spending $450 on them at other places.

There are some things you can do better on with coupons. But there are some things that costco regularly has coupons on also, which brings the costs down even more.

If your costco has a gas station, that is a huge savings, and for us more than covers the membership.

I am a Costco member and shop there about once a month. However, I find that Safeway and/or Giant usually have better deals on items I regularly use. I try to purchase items I use in bulk when they are on sale but also buy milk, orange juice and produce on a weekly basis. Using my strategy, today I saved 43 % off of items I use regularly at Safeway.
