I did sponge baths until the cord stump fell off. About 3 a week.

I didn't do a "real" bath until about 2 weeks because it took that long for the stump to fall off.

This. You aren't supposed to give a full-on bath while the stump is still on. It needs to dry up and fall off. You can sponge bathe the diaper area for the first couple of weeks and that will keep baby plenty clean. After that, a couple baths a week should be fine, until baby gets more active. Newborn skin is so sensitive. With older babies and toddlers, a daily bath is often appropriate.

Her ass???

Is it new information for you that babies have asses?

It's new to hear someone refer to their baby's bottom as an "ass." Just unnecessarily crude. Are you the same person from the crying-toddler thread who taught her 2 year old to refer to her gentialia as her "puss"? Gross.

+1. We gave a sponge bath every other day until the stump fell off, but cleaned the stump and diaper areas daily.

Adopted. About six days old. Sponge bath using a hotel ice bucket. Now family legend.

Once you start either don't do daily or make some baths "water baths" to avoid irritating skin.

Yes.

OP, call your pediatrician. You have to be really careful about the cord stump.

The day we got home from the hospital. I wanted to wash off those hospital germs ASAP (I wanted to give birth in a field of flowers but DH wouldn't let me.)

Wash your baby, OP!

I have 2 week old with cord stump still on. I feel like he really needs a bath. When did you give first bath at home?
