OP here. Wow, thanks for all of these recommendations. They sound great. Any more suggestions would be welcome.

What about Alki Beach on West Seattle? It's a charming little area with a beach, running paths, great restaurants, and about twenty minutes to downtown. I've always wanted to rent a condo or house there.

I second the Whidbey Island recommendation, though Bainbridge is even closer (though not as beachy as you might want). The San Juans are a great destination too, but a lot of the commute will depend upon ferry schedules. If you are open to a destination that's more like 3 hours away, I would recommend Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast - unbelievably beautiful!

From a week after 4th of July til mid September, you can expect beautiful sun but some areas along to water could be fogged in til noon but don't let that stop you from going - the Seattle area is beautiful if you can look passed the crazy liberals.

Check any of the islands the ferries go to. I am only familiar with Bainbridge where our friends have a "beach house." It is on the water, beach is large rocks but lots of things to do plus watching the sea lions never gets old.

I haven't been but hear great things about Seabrook. More like 2-2.5 hours though.

FWIW, Seattle is not near the Pacific. THe ocean is a several hour drive.

Whidbey Island is nice and is about 1.5 hours north. A ferry is required to get on at the south end which runs every 30 minutes but could be a 2 hour wait on summer Friday afternoons.

Hood Canal is also pretty.

Also know unless you are a polar bear or kid, the water is NEVER warm enough to swim in.

Can anyone recommend a place to rent a beach house near Seattle? It doesn't have to be an ocean beach. I am hoping for about 90 minutes or less from Seattle. Thanks!
