Not everyone is a fed w fixed salaries for particular duties regardless of skill and performance.

Don't quit or even engage in serious job hunt if you enjoy your job but are underpaid as your only complaint. Some employers hate to lose good employees without having a chance to make things better. Tell your employer and give them a chance. If they say not it won't be a surprise if you leave.

Make your case based upon your work accomplishments and any market research you can do regarding your level, experience, and education. Don't reference other employees if possible.

They will either do their own internal comparison with others at similar levels in your company or they won't.

If they won't give you a raise, then you should start looking for something else.

Even good managers don't always compare salaries among their employees until someone asks for a raise. But at that point good managers will recognize the disparity and do something for you, although it may not be as much as your colleague. Bad managers will just tell you there's nothing they can do or tell you that you made your bed when you started with the company.

Just be sure your performance exceeds expectations for the job before you ask.

you leave, asking for a raise based on another person salary doesn't make sense. Everyone starts at a certain point and you are given raises based on your performance and accomplishments.

My co-worker accidentally told me her salary, and now I feel bad about the pay I get. We are at the same level with similar background and experiences, hers is about 20% higher. Anyone had experience negotiating pay raise ?
